Snow Patrol The Forest Is The Path UNIVERSAL

U heeft het aan Snow Patrol te danken dat mijn naam al een jaar of dertien in het OOR-colofon staat.
In 2009 sloot de band de veertigste editie van Pinkpop af.
Ik besefte tijdens dat prachtige concert dat ik zoveel van popmuziek hield dat ik die liefde graag op een of andere manier met anderen wilde delen.

En omdat mijn vrouw op dat moment een weekend aan slecht verteerde loempia’s aan het lozen was, stond ik alleen te genieten en merkte ik dat ik daar geen moeite mee had:
het in mijn lonesome bezoeken van shows.
Ik begon te schrijven voor kleine publicaties die mij alsmaar censureerden en kwam gelukkig bij OOR terecht, nog steeds het enige muziekblad waar een recensent
eerlijk kan opschrijven wat hij ergens van vindt.

De reden dat ik dit persoonlijk verhaal deel, is overigens niet omdat ik om aandacht verlegen zit.
Het is simpelweg wat de stem van Gary Lightbody bij mij en vermoedelijk al zijn luisteraars losmaakt.
Die stem is namelijk nog steeds als je lievelingskleedje.
Op het moment dat je hem om je koude lichaam slaat, krijg je het niet alleen lekker warm, maar komen er ook allemaal herinneringen terug.
Je kat lag ooit op dat kleedje. Die is nu dood, maar je houdt nog steeds van ‘m.
En toen je pa ineens in slaap viel op je allereerste eigen bank, die hij maanden eerder met zijn busje voor je had opgehaald bij de Seats & Sofas, legde je dat kleedje liefdevol over hem heen.
Ook hij is er nu niet meer, maar je denkt nog iedere dag aan hem.

Over The Forest Is The Path kunnen we verder eigenlijk kort zijn.
Het achtste album van Snow Patrol is een vintage Snow Patrol-plaat.
Er staan twaalf radiovriendelijke, recht-door-zee kabbelende poprocksongs op waarin Gary Lightbody vertederende teksten over het leven en de liefde zingt,
met die eindeloos knuffelbare kachelstem van ‘m. Zowel de instrumentatie als de refreinen zijn arena- en stadionbestendig.
Dit album van begin tot eind beluisteren moet je vooral niet doen.
Je zet de absolute highlights – All, The Beginning, Everything’s Here And Nothing’s Lost en Talking About Hope –
bij Just Say Yes en Chasing Cars in de playlist, haalt herinneringen op en huilt.

Path – Extended Edition
Five new songs

Snow Patrol are to issue what they are calling an ‘Extended Edition’ of their 2024 album The Forest is the Path on CD, in March.
The band went back into the studio with producer Fraser T Smith in final weeks of 2024 and recorded a number of brand new songs.
Rather than sit on them, they’ve decided to put them on this new expanded version of the album (although of course issuing them as a standalone EP was also an option!).
The 12-track long-player, which topped the UK album charts, now grows to an 18-track version with the additional songs including ‘This Is The Silence’,
‘What’s Left In The Light’ and ‘Waking Up Now’. There’s also a remix of ‘This Is The Sound Of Your Voice’.

This new Extended Edition of the album will be released on 14 March 2025, via Polydor. For the time being at least, there’s only a CD version.

After six years, Snow Patrol are back in 2024 with a new studio album “Forest Is The Path”. Inspired by introspection, self-reflection and shaped by an essential building block –
memories of love – singer Gary wrote twelve new songs together with his band. The album was produced by Fraser T Smith (Adele/Dave/Stormzy), together with the band.
Following Snow Patrol’s dynamic eighth studio album “The Forest Is The Path”, the band returned to the studio with producer Fraser T Smith at the end of 2024.
There they produced six new songs together, which were released just four months later with the existing tracks as The Forest Is The Path Extended Edition.
The 12-track long-player, which topped the UK album charts, now grows to an 18-track version with the additional songs including ‘This Is The Silence’,
‘What’s Left In The Light’ and ‘Waking Up Now’. There’s also a remix of ‘This Is The Sound Of Your Voice’.
